Our group has had a recent bonanza of papers. Dr. Cole McCormick and Dr. Kalev Hantsoo both had papers out this spring. Cole's paper is on U incorporation in dolomite, which reveals that U(VI) is expected to be lost during dolomitization. Kalev's paper is on the potential for major gypsum burial and weathering events to produce large changes in ocean DIK and alkalinity, with only minor changes in atmospheric CO2. They are both open access. Check them out below!

Senior theses students Kayla Foster and Ethan Dunmire graduated with their B.S. degrees in May! They have joined the professional world in Virginia and Philadelphia, respectively.
They defended their senior theses on: A Tale of Two Fluids: Burial Diagenetic Overprinting of the Shuram Carbon Isotope Excursion (Windermere Supergroup, Mackenzie Mountains, northwest Canada) [Kayla] The Ediacaran Shuram Carbon Isotope Excursion in the Gametrail Formation at Sewki Brook, Mackenzie Mountains [Ethan] Their research both centered on disentangling an enigmatic expression of a huge negative carbon isotope excursion in the Ediacaran. Congrats to you both! We are proud of you and excited for you. Fai successfully defended her Ph.D. in May, 2026. She was one of the very first members of the research group at Penn State, and is the first Ph.D. graduate. Fai powered through COVID, desert field work, highs and lows in the lab, and lots of lots of writing to get to this point. She produced so much interesting paleoenvironmental proxy data from Ediacaran carbonates all over the world. We are so proud of her and wish her the best as she returns home to Thailand. We will miss you, Fai!
